A new nanobrewery tucked away in the picturesque countryside north of Pennsdale offers local craft beer lovers a place to relax, chat and enjoy a good brew. Therapy Brewing, 3978 Quaker Church Road, Montoursville, held its grand opening on May 25 for a parking lot and an overflow parking field of excited patrons, said Chris Kuriga, co-owner of Therapy Brewing. The event was catered by Harter’s Hearth and Susquehanna Mills.

The three-barrel operation runs out of a 100-year-old farmshed, renovated by Kuriga and his good friends turned business partners, Mark Killian, of South Williamsport, and Quinn Kirk, of Williamsport and currently building a house near the brewery. Taking their home brewing skills to Pennsdale exit 15 on 220 North, the trio was able to share their love of beer with the local community. “We focus on the fun and enjoyment that we have had at home (brewing) for years, and try to put that in the glass here at the brewery,” said Kuriga.

Therapy Brewing’s pour sheet changes week to week, ensuring customers a new experience each time they visit. “Currently, some highlights include our True Grit Cream Ale, an IPA called ‘Grain Fed’ and a perfectly tart gose with lime,” said Kuriga. In the get-up-and-go hustle of life, Therapy Brewing is a much-needed respite away from it all. “It’s a chance for all of us to slow down a little and enjoy a moment or two,” said Kuriga, “As long as we can keep that feeling going, we’re doing it right by our standards.”

Even in its short life, Therapy Brewing has garnered shining reviews from customers who will undoubtedly become lifelong supporters. “This place is 100% off the grid, 100% peaceful and 100% has amazing beers,” said Ron White, of Muncy. Though the future is always uncertain, Therapy Brewing can rest easy knowing their patrons are as excited for what comes next as they are. “This will be a favorite for me, and I can’t wait to see what they have planned for the future,” said Eric Lusk, of Montoursville.

For Kuriga, opening a brewery is all about the community. “Our brewery is based upon (community) — the more we can support it, the better,” said Kuriga, who reaches out to small businesses in the Pajama Factory and in the Williamsport area for his embroidery, promotional materials and other business needs. With a shop-small, shop-local mentality, “Everyone gets to benefit,” said Kuriga.
