HUGHESVILLE — The leadership of the Muncy Luminary is changing with the retirement of Barbara Barrett as its editor.

Cindy Knier, who had served as editor from 2005 to 2009, has been named as her replacement.

Barrett, who has a degree in education and journalism and comes from a publishing background, has been editor since 2009. During her tenure, she has helped to developed a website for The Luminary, kept readers informed of local happenings, worked with many local organizations, such as the library, the hospital, the Muncy Professional Business Association and the Muncy Historical Society.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the relationships I established here as managing editor of the Luminary; and I couldn’t have done it without the correspondents, and wonderful working team that helped to put it all together. Cindy has the experience plus the knowledge of the everchanging technology.”

Since her departure in 2009, Knier earned an Associates’ Degree from SUNY Empire in Saratoga Springs, New York, where she developed a fascination with social media, starting a number of Facebook pages to promote organizations with the community, such as the Son-Light House and the Muncy Neighborhood Watch page. Video clips became integral in social media and Knier developed her own Youtube page as well.

She drove a school bus for Brelsford Transportation Company, Inc. from 2010 to 2014 until she was hired to work as a library aide at Muncy High Shool. “Working with kids is something I’ve always enjoyed,” she said, adding that she intends to continue working in the district.

“I’m especially thrilled and grateful to return to the Luminary in this capacity,” Knier said of the opportunity. “Barb did a stellar job the last decade, networking with people and organizations to remain vital in the media industry.”

The Luminary is located with its sister publication, the East Lycoming Shopper & News, at 1025 Route 405 in Wolf Township.
